Meet Bruce Barcelo, an accomplished educator, healthcare professional, and tobacco prevention advocate who has dedicated his career to improving public health and wellness. Bruce is the Director of Education and Prevention for Soter Technologies, a company that specializes in developing innovative technologies to promote safety and security in schools and other public spaces. At Soter, Bruce works with school districts to implement best practices for vape prevention using FlySense detectors, which have been proven effective in detecting vaping and other harmful substances.
Bruce serves as the Senior Program Director at MCADAMHS, where he helps coordinate and oversee mental health and addiction services in Montgomery County, Ohio. He is also a faculty member on the credentialing board for Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist of the Breathing Association, which is dedicated to helping individuals quit smoking and overcome other tobacco-related addictions.
Bruce’s commitment to tobacco prevention extends beyond his professional work. He is an active volunteer with Parents Against Vaping E-Cigarettes (PAVE), a national advocacy group that works to raise awareness about the dangers of vaping and e-cigarettes. Bruce has also served as the chairperson of the Tobacco Free Ohio Alliance for two terms and is currently serving his third term as Chair.
In addition to his advocacy work, Bruce is a retired teacher, coach, and principal, with a wealth of experience in education and leadership. He has taught at the University of Dayton and currently teaches at Antioch Midwest University. Bruce has written and been published in multiple periodicals, including a Vape Prevention curriculum for Soter. He also presents at many national, state, and local conventions and meetings on tobacco and health-related topics.
Bruce’s contributions to public health have not gone unnoticed. He has been the recipient of Ohio’s “Outstanding Health Education Award” and the “Healthcare Professional of the Year Award”. This summer, he will be presenting at the International HOSA Leadership Conference, which will be attended by 10,000 youth.
