Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures. Productivity while working from home can trend in the right direction when done properly. Whether you’re joining the mobile workforce indefinitely or adjusting to a temporary situation such as the effects of a pandemic, here are three ways to get the most out of your workday.

  1. Set the scene

Before a movie star performs, the stage must be set. Similarly, before you begin to work from home, you should recreate your in-office set-up at home. Finding the right corner or space to work from home, is probably the toughest and most important decision you may face during this time. But, once you find where you will be getting the job done; working from home gets easier.

  1. Keep the pace

Distractions… distractions are all over the place. Now home, your pets may want more love, your loved ones may want you to fix something they broke, or your sibling singing in the shower may not let you focus on the task at hand. These are only some examples of the challenges you may face working from home. But, you must identify the distractions and try to address them before beginning your allotted work time. In some cases, distractions may be avoided by picking the right place at home as mentioned before.

  1. Stay in touch with your team

Send your boss an update on your progress and keep your coworkers aware of what you’re working on if you share a project. Set up video conferences to continue the weekly meetings to further the project worked on. Now that your office at home is set and you’re firing at all cylinders, keep the organization’s culture alive. Continue to celebrate your coworker’s work anniversary and/or birthday even if it’s through a video conference. Create a shared document using your favorite applications, have everyone digitally sign it, and let this serve as an appreciation/birthday card for the recipient. Not only will this keep you connected to your work, but it will also give you the sense of camaraderie you may miss when working from home. If you’re on the receiving end of this, it may lead you to feel appreciated and make all the difference to your day.
